If you want a low cost way of guaranteeing a crash on your machine won’t lose all your scripts, Celtx Studios (less than £5/month) gives you cloud storage (and collaboration tools) – and keeps a copy of every version you save so you can always go back to an earlier version to find that scene you cut out and now want back. If you don’t want to spend money, Celtx is rather more cost-effective than something you have to pay for. If you want to do lots of pre-production stuff like scheduling and storyboards then Celtx is very very good. If you want to just write scripts and you’ve already splashed out on FD ( or MM) there’s no point changing to Celtx. ![]() However there is as-you-type paging, though I never bother with it: Script > Format options > Pagination. Ideally there would be a standard XML-based format for screenplays but FD wouldn’t want to support it even if it existed. Transferring from FD to Celtx is much easier. Celtx tries to play nice – after all it’s free and actually open source – but playing nice is the last thing that FD wants, it wants to control the market. It’s not the fault of Celtx that it can’t input directly to FD – FD uses a proprietory format (like Microsoft does). It’s written in a friendly, conversational style with lots of examples and exercises to prod you in the right direction. I couldn’t find anything about the two features I would like Celtx to have, so I’m assuming the program doesn’t do them since it seems unlikely the book would have left them out – it really is that detailed … but not boring. Features I don’t particularly want, but at least I now know they’re there if I ever feel the need. I learnt quite a lot about features I didn’t even know Celtx had. Convert your MP3 files in single file or batch conversion mode. But again, you really shouldn't be compressing to mp3 in the first place, unless you're one of the few who still has an "mp3 player" that doesn't support AAC.English, German, French, Spanish, Greek, Russian, Japanese, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese Regardless of how nice the user interface and how easy it is to use, I won't be using or recommending it.įor those who are still compressing to mp3 (which is a really foolish thing to do in this day and age - mp3 was abandoned years ago by the standards bodies in favor of AAC because of mp3's mediocre performance characteristics), MH might be a simple and easy to use option. MH eliminates that AAC advantage altogether by, apparently, imposing its own 20kHz filter on AAC conversions, and I can't condemn that in strong enough words. AAC is a lossy format, but nearly as lossy as mp3. Part of the reason AAC sounds better than mp3 is it has superior audio spectrum. Step 3: Pick your format, quality level, and adjust your settings. Step 2: Select the files you want to convert. The only way to listen/download it from Apple Music servers in Lossless is if those files match with Apples own AND those songs are available in lossless in Apple Music. But it was long ago discovered that the original thinking was flawed because it doesn't take into spacial characteristics (sound stage) and high frequency harmonic distortion, etc. Step 1: Go to the Online Audio Converter website. But if you are planning to add the ALAC files to your iTunes library to be uploaded to iCloud Music Library don’t bother, it will be converted to AAC 256kbps in the cloud. For that reason mp3 filters everything above 20kHz. Granted, the human ear can't hear above 20kHz anyway, and that was the original rational used by the standards bodies when they came up with mp3 in 1993 in the first place. MediaHuman Audio Converter for Windows uses the latest versions of audio codecs, which guarantees the best quality of output sound. If you plot spectrum of the vast majority of iTunes Store purchases you'll find that the spectrum extends to a minimum of 21kHz, and many extend to 22kHz. The conversion with MH yields results which would lead one to believe it's actually using an mp3 codec instead of AAC, with the sharp 20kHz cutoff characteristic of mp3. True to form, XLD yields audio spectrum results that are as close to the original flac as one could hope for (btw, this is only possible if you compress to AAC - mp3 isn't capable of that). For comparison I use Spek, as well as the Plot Spectrum feature in Audacity. I was recently asked my opinion of MediaHuman Audio Converter for compressing flac to AAC/m4a. I've come to depend on it for yielding the best possible audio results. I'm a long-time and regular user of XLD and have come to appreciate its features and versatility. ![]() |
